San Diego Mesa College School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is a four-story complex that features interdisciplinary learning environments. Delawie designed the educational spaces for students pursuing degree and certificate programs in Biology, Chemistry, Physical Sciences and Mathematics. The building consists of instructional, computer lab, and teaching lab classrooms as well as faculty, staff, and administrative support spaces.
In addition to cutting-edge technology throughout, the complex includes numerous study spaces. Small group areas were designed to feature glass walls where formulas are often drawn for interactive study.
Specialty spaces include a greenhouse and astronomy observation center. An award-winning exterior courtyard space was designed to be used for instruction in biology and the physical sciences.
A constrained site required a multi-story building to fit all programmed space into a single building. The central lobby is the activity hub, connecting the lab wing of the building with the faculty and general classroom wing.
