Altus Charter Schools

The Altus Schools network of K-12 charter schools are motivated to provide an alternative teaching and learning style that is a non-profit, state funded, free public school. Delawie collaborated extensively with the Charter to design an innovative approach to classrooms and lab spaces for independent study.

The model was implemented across San Diego in more than 30 tenant improvements in non-academic locations. Often situated in retail or office centers or shopping centers, it was important that each school expressed an individual identity either related to its location or the school curriculum focus.

While the program elements for the learning center remain the same, the interior design creates a unique identity through color, graphics and materials. Utilizing our experience in higher education and childcare centers, the design intent was to facilitate the learning process with new and innovative elements.
